Livability.com Names America’s Top 10 Downtowns
Cities cited for vibrant nightlife, independent restaurants, family-friendly options and thriving small businesses
Franklin, Tenn. — Livability.com editors researched more than 500 communities to find the top cities with the most appealing, inviting and vibrant downtowns for their latest Top 10 List.
“A city’s heart and soul revolves around its downtown district,”says Livability.com spokesman John Hood. “Whether this is a cozy cute town square or a sprawling city scene several blocks long, more often than not, downtown is the center of a community’s culture.”
While every downtown might be lovable in its own way, there are those that stand out from the crowd. These downtown streets welcome you in, let you get comfortable then invite you to come back for more. Some cities made the list for their thriving arts scene, colorful nightlife and plentiful shopping destinations. Others rely on their roots to draw crowds, playing up their small-town charm with welcoming streets and restored buildings.
A range of flavors can be found in upscale eateries and casual cafés, while indie theaters, glossy off-Broadway productions, and family-friendly museums offer residents and visitors endless ways to spend their days.
